Push notifications are a powerful way to reach your users - but how much they see depends on the device and OS version. While you can technically send messages up to 4 KB in payload size, only a fraction of that text will be visible on the lock screen or notification center. Because display limits vary significantly (especially between smartphones, tablets, and foldable devices), we recommend keeping messages concise and impactful.
Best Practices by Platform
iOS Devices (Phones):
→ Keep combined title + message under 100–120 characters.
→ iOS tends to truncate messages more aggressively.Android Devices (Phones):
→ Allows slightly longer content: aim for 180–200 characters combined.
→ Despite this flexibility, shorter messages still perform better for user attention.
Important: These limits are not enforced in the Dashboard and may change with future OS versions or device types (e.g., tablets, foldables). Always test your messages on relevant devices if possible.
Tips for Writing Effective Notifications
Short, punchy titles: Aim for ~30 characters or less.
Lead with key info: Users may not see the end of your message.
Use action-driven language:
Examples:“Listen Live Now!”
“New Interview Available”
“Only Today: 2-for-1 Deal!”
